For those who are looking forward to signing up for Lake Stevens Cooking Classes, we provide these services. As a growing health and wellness center in this part of the US, we are proud to announce that holistic cooking and nutrition is covered by our classes.
In our classes, we include nutrition and food preparation practice that you can incorporate into your daily routines.
We introduce food preparation techniques that would reduce the need for excessive processing. Some of these techniques are already being used at home today. They include steaming, roasting, poaching, grilling, baking and herb/spice based cooking.
Healthy eating is a practice that could be learned easily. However, if the holistic direction is to be followed, there are specific rules that must be followed. The following are examples of what we would teach in our classes:
- Consumption of organic food products. These should be free from commercial pesticides and have been identified to be grown locally. Of course, GMOs or genetically modified organisms are excluded from the list.
- Consumption of whole foods: these are unprocessed or have been minimally processed. These could include wheat, local grains, pasta, bread, and many more. Food products that contain the label “whole foods” should be examined carefully before being purchased. Labels can be misleading a lot of the time.
- Inclusion of essential fatty acids in food preparation: Most plant based oils have this type of substance. Examples would include virgin coconut oil, olive oil, organic canola oil, and flax seed oil.
- Proper amount of water intake: We are quite familiar with the principle of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. It will keep the body hydrated and promotes the health of the digestive system.
There are many of these practices that people might think as harmless. We will expose the facts about these practices. As an example, the use of artificial sweeteners (ex. Splenda and NutraSweet) is discouraged. The same would go for the use of microwave on heating food and beverages. We would make sure that through our Lake Stevens Cooking Classes, these subjects will be covered.
